Gary Floater – Sunburn Lake

In songs on August 1, 2011 at 3:10 pm

In 2008, Austin songwriters Owen Temple and Adam Carroll invented a fictional songwriter named Gary Floater, releasing a “tribute album” of their favorite Floater tunes. It’s an interesting exercise, writing in the name of a nonexistent character. They came up with an entire backstory first, describing him as an ornery cuss from Miami, Missouri, whose uncouth behavior has gotten him kicked out of every club he’s ever played, not to mention the CMT awards and numerous Nashville label offices.

This song exemplifies the style, just obnoxious for the sake of it, and yet possessing a certain endearing honesty.
