Letters To Cleo – Demon Rock

In songs on November 7, 2011 at 9:27 am

It’s probably obvious by now, but my hard rock predilections skew strongly towards the melodic. My experience is that in the past 20 years or so, much of the best melodic hard rock has been created by women, or at least by female-fronted bands, as in today’s example.

Letters to Cleo was a short-lived ’90s band, although singer Kay Hanley went on to do voice work for movies like Josie & the Pussycats.

One of the notable things about this song is that it has a two-part chorus, something that is under-used in pop music. It’s a tricky thing to pull off, but here it’s a lot of what makes the song memorable.
