Metric – Stadium Love

I enjoy songs that have a bit of menace in them. This one sneaks some in via the lyrics, innocently delivered by Metric singer/keyboardist/guitarist Emily Haines.

Once the concept sinks in, it’s delightfully evil. Adding big reverbs to the overdriven drums and keyboards provides the atmosphere alluded to by the words as well, another good approach.

As sort of a side note, one of the issues that pops up in songwriting is how to end a song. And while album order is increasingly less important in the digital age, I still enjoy a good closing tune, which this certainly is. The ending is designed appropriately, providing a sense of closure. I’ll enjoy that art while it lasts.
